Trijya, the Academic Society of the Department

An Introduction

Initially the mathematics department used to organize lectures and talks by eminent mathematicians only.In the late 90's the department formed a formal society to extend the scope of academic curriculum to extra curricular activities also. The Academic Society of the Department, being a part of the College considered to be a full circle-referring to its completeness, is just like a small portion of that circle and hence appropriately be given the name as "TRIJYA"

During the Platinum Jubilee year 1999, the society initiated its Annual Festival "Convergence" which is currently renamed as "Paridhi". Here the Department try to showcase the talent of its vibrant and brilliant student community. Usually the festival comprises of a series of lectures followed by competitions at Intra as well as Inter-College level.

The Society has organized two National Conferences, one during Platinum Jubilee and the other one a bit later.

To increase interaction amongst students, group activities like picnic, day-trips, educational tours etc. are also encouraged.

To encourage and for better exposure for career, the Society has recently started Alumna Talk Series where established old students are called to interact with the current students. Here Alumna share their struggles, cautions, experiences etc. with the current students. This series is receiving great responses from students as well as speakers.

Weekly research seminar and discussion forum was initiated in July 2014 and continued till April 2015. Occasional such discussions are still in progress. Here students are given chance to present their research/ studies on various topics of Mathematics and its Applications. The main aim for such seminars are:-

  • to motivate the students for studies beyond their curriculum.

  • to generate interest in research under the guidance of the faculty.

  • to improving their presentation skills.

  • to generating confidence to face questions/queries related to presentations.
