Iowa's SDI Framework is a guide to engage educators and families to support the following key components:
Diagnose for Instructional Design
Design for Instructional Delivery
Deliver for Learner Engagement
Engage in Family-School Partnerships
The SDI Framework is the result of many years of work from a variety of Iowa stakeholders, including AEA and LEA Directors of Special Education, the Iowa Department of Education, representatives of families, special and general education teachers, and AEA staff.
When clearly articulated features of SDI are absent, it is impossible to determine the fidelity of its implementation or to efficiently organize resources and ensure that technical assistance and professional development activities are present. Therefore, key components and critical features were developed and represented in Iowa's SDI Framework. Effective SDI is evident when the key components and critical features are evident in practice.
