The Philosophy Club meeting schedule has been completely revamped this year. Instead of simply having large group discussions, we are splitting up into smaller groups that each espouse the position of a philosophical school of thought on the month's topic, and defend it in a tournament style debate against the other groups.
Our topics this year build from the general (epistemology, metaphysics) to the more specific (religion, psychology, society, and morality) and in doing so cover an incredible breadth of philosophical ground. There is truly something for everyone to talk about at the philosophy club.
If scheduling is an issue, there is a Philosophy group-chat, in which members can participate in discussions even if they are too busy to attend meetings. Even if the discussions in the chat get a bit messy (just imagine arguing over whether chairs exist or not), they are always interesting.
If one does not find discussion or debate enticing, he too can have an outlet for his thought in the form of a Philosophy section of the Daily Gael. At the end of every topic (each of which lasts for a month), everyone will have the opportunity to write any personal thoughts or opinions on the topic that he feels have not been adequately expressed. This "personal statement" can then be published on the Daily Gael, giving recognition to the previously unrevealed genius of Iona Prep's students.
All of this and more awaits Iona Prep's students in the Philosophy Club. I thoroughly encourage all students that are inquiring about anything, or would simply like to hear the ideas of their fellow students, to come to our meetings on Fridays in room 212. Stay curious, my friends.
