Choice-Based Learning

The Inola Art Classroom (Middle and High Schools) has changed its learning model to choice-based learning, also known as TAB, as of January 5th, 2021. This model replaces the project-based teacher-led learning we were participating in before. The need for this change came about after the realization that the typical project-based/teacher-led art classroom doesn’t work for Inola students in the currently often-absent/virtual learning environment due to COVID.

What is Choice-based learning?

Choice-based learning begins with every student being treated as an artist. It is a process in which learners have a greater sense of control over the way their interests, backgrounds, and preferences work together to enhance their learning and determine how they interact with educational content.

Choice-based learning allows me to:

--Teach about materials and techniques and let the students thrive in exploring their own ideas while staying invested in the learning.

--Give personal attention and time to each student in and out of my classroom.

--Teach individual mini-lessons catered to that student’s individual goals.

Just know...

Choice-based learning can be an excellent addition to any classroom. Students are often far happier and more interested in engaging with the material when they can choose their own activities. This method allows students to explore materials and techniques they enjoy, as well as experiment with new materials and techniques to keep them learning.
