Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) provides students the opportunity to explore and prepare for careers in culinary, nutrition, education, early childhood, fashion design, interior design, textiles, tourism and hospitality, food science, social services and many human services related careers.

FCS engages students in hands-on learning that they will use their entire life – parenting, family relationships, communication skills, nutrition, food preparation, finances and management , fashion design, textiles, food science, and consumerism, to name a few.

The Independence Community School District has a very strong Family and Consumer Sciences program that offers the following courses to our students; Culinary Techniques I, II and III, Parenting, Home Design, Fashion and Fabrics I, II and III, Real Living I and II, 7th grade FCS Exploratory and 8th grade FCS Exploratory.
