Mr. Carey's Biography

Early Life:

I was born in Downers Grove, IL and grew up in the Chicago suburb of Westmont, IL.  After graduating from Montini Catholic High School, I attended Upper Iowa University where I participated in Wrestling and earned a degree and teaching certification in the areas of social studies, special education and coaching.

Professional and Career:

Upon graduation from UIU in 2003, I gained experience from my first teaching position at South Winneshiek Middle School as a 6th-8th grade Special Education Teacher. There I also gained experience working as an Activities Director and Jr. High Wrestling Coach before gaining employment here at Independence.  Since 2006, I have held the positions of Jr. High Social Studies Teacher, High School Special Education Teacher and have coached at various levels of the wrestling program. I have been a member of several groups and committees within the school district. The work that we have done has helped me gain some insight into what our school can do for students. Coaching wrestling at various levels here at Independence has been enjoyable and rewarding as well.  Taking the opportunity to volunteer, support community groups and coach various sports in the community has made me feel like a true Indee Mustang.  My wife, Brook, and I both work at the junior high and live in Independence with our two children.
