When a long vowel is followed by the letter hamza (ء ؤ أ ئ) in the same word, it is elongated for 4 or 5 counts. Elongated vowels will have a wave on top (~) .

When a long vowel is followed by the letter hamza (ء ؤ أ ئ) in the following word, it is also elongated for 4 or 5 counts unless you stop on the first word, then it is shortened two just 2 counts. Elongated vowels will have a wave on top (~).
