PERSI – Part-Time Employees Now Eligible for PERSI Choice & Roth 401(k)
Starting January 1, 2026, part-time employees receiving a W-2 from IDLA are eligible to participate in the PERSI Choice 401(k) retirement plan.
You can elect to contribute either:
Pre-tax contributions (Choice 401(k)), or
Roth 401(k) (after-tax) contributions
There is no income threshold or minimum hour requirement. Even if you work 19 hours or fewer, you can choose to start saving for retirement through Choice.
Contact HR for enrollment details and payroll setup.
PERSI – IDLA is a PERSI Participating Employer
Part-time employees under our current model are not eligible for PERSI contributions.
However, IDLA must report all eligible earnings to PERSI in accordance with state regulations.
Part-time teachers should consult with PERSI to understand how their employment may affect retirement benefits.
"How does working part-time affect my PERSI Retirement?" is a good question to ask yourself—and PERSI.

Retiring employees who plan to draw PERSI benefits must complete Form RS132 with IDLA’s HR Team should they be offered PT employment with IDLA.
A 90-day break in service is required of early retirees before returning to work for IDLA as a PERSI-participating employer.
A 24-hour break in service is required for service age (65 or older) before returning to work for IDLA as a PERSI-participating employer.
Note: Re-employment is never guaranteed. Any post-retirement hiring at IDLA depends on student enrollment needs, PERSI regulations, and HR approval.
