My research experience involves calculation of crash modification factors, safety analysis through cross sectional and empirical Bayes before after studies. I have worked on projects involving evaluation of the impact of destination/street lighting at rural intersections, safety evaluation of safety edge, impact of installation of beacons on stop signs, road diet safety benefits and safety impacts of sequential chevrons at horizontal curves in Iowa. I have also worked on evaluation of risk factors for horizontal curves in Iowa.
My dissertation focused on drivers' speed change models for various work zone configurations using SHRP2 NDS data. We identified, collected and reduced data for different roadway facilities with construction work and are using statistical software R to handle this big data for analysis. The project investigated the effects of driver and work zone characteristics on speed choice in work zones. I am also studying the driver lane merge behavior before a lane drops in a work zone.
