FRANK E. VERRAN

Frank Eugene Verran was born in Spruce Pine in North Carolina to Thomas Henry Verran and Martha Ann Fender. He married Sallie Meredith in 1942. Their son, William Thomas Verran, was born to the couple in July, 1943. Frank Verran was aboard a training plane when which crached in the ocean eight miles off Montauk Point, L.I.

His brother-in-law, S/Sgt. Ira Lynn Meredith was killed in France on 9 June 1944.

Quinset, R.I., August 19. The Navy today listed as lost three officers and nine enlisted men who were aboard a training plane which crashed yesterday noon in the ocean eight miles off Montauk Point, L.I.
None of the bodies were recovered by rescue craft which scoured the area since the crash occurred. Officer and crew included:
Irvin L. Marshall, Jr., aviation radio man third class, USNR, Baltimored, Md.
Bruce Franklin Shankie, seaman second class, USNR, Thomasville, N.C., Mrs. B.M. Shankle, mother.
William G. O´Brien, aviation machinist mate, first class, Norfolk, Va.,
Frank E. Verran, aviation radio man, first class, USN, Route 4, Elizabethton, Tenn., Mrs. Francis E. Verran, Wife.

He has a memorial stone in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, TN.
