This page is an overview of what we are doing in class.

Second Grade Students have homework every night Monday through Thursday.

Email me with any questions or concerns.

Language Arts

• They should be reading at least 10 minutes each night

• Please check your child's homework folder each night for additional homework or notes.

• A Homework Contract is sent home each Monday for reading/math facts. This is to be returned on Friday.

Math

Students should practice their addition/subtraction facts to 20 each night.

Students will have one or two math review sheets for homework Monday through Thursday.

Math facts are tested twice a month.

Writing

Our writing class focuses on different types of writing.

It is quizzed at the end of each of our Language Arts units.

We utilize prewriting organizers for planning our writing.

We write in all subjects, including math.

Health

We use the Second Step Program.

It teaches us how to work with others and handle

ourselves appropriately in all different situations.

We want every child to feel like a special part of the HTES family. To foster "I Have the

Heart of a (Hardyston)Hornet" spirit in all of us, the entire school celebrates a different

theme each month. There is a school wide assembly to introduce and "teach" the monthly

theme. We apply it in all of our classes.

Science

We are learning about the wonderful world of Monarchs!

We learn about penguins, bats, plants, magnets, the solar system, the sun, and much more.
