July 28th Seniors Program

We had a fun gathering with grandkids. Our tables were so beautifully color coordinated with yellow and orange chrysanthum flowers. Interestingly quite a few women had worn yellow salwars and saris and to contrasts this color, quite a few had blue salwars and saris.

Raman-ji taught simple asanas and pranayama techniques to the grandchildren who came to participate in the seniors program. In the process, Raman-ji also mentioned there is a yoga for mothers and kids happening at the temple on Sundays.

We had a surprise birthday cake cutting celebration followed by lunch. This day the daal was simply delicious. Thank you to Bharati Khandekar for sharing her recipe and for bringing the masala from home to make it here.

Special thank you to Punam for making this special lunch for seniors.

The grand children entertained us all with their talents. It was quite heartwarming to see 2 year old Riya step up to sing, then shy away for a while only to come back and sing ABC in a quiet voice. We had Palni (7), Aishwarya(8), Devina(5), Sohin(10) and Aarav(10) dance to Punjabi Jingle Bells, then Mansi(9) and Mahima(6) so beautifully danced to the song "Dance pe chance" from "rab de bana di Jodi". On the spot all the children along with Nikita (9) decided to sing the song "Dynamite".

This program could not have happened without the support of so many volunteers and the HTCC Seniors wish to acknowledge their contributions - Tikaram-ji who helps out with setting up tables and cleaning the chairs, Devraj-ji who handles so many things from buying ingredients for making lunch to setting up tables to driving people, children who helped in setting up the vases with flowers, Neha for her encouragement and support towards the Seniors program; her warmth extending towards Seniors make them feel welcome at the temple, Bharati Khandekar for giving a helping hand at the kitchen, Raman-ji for his continued dedication to the Seniors yoga sessions and many more volunteers who quietly do their work including the Seniors themselves who help in cleaning up after the program. This program truly brings out the community spirit in us all.

Enjoy the sunshine and we will see you in August.
