In Second Grade, we are discussing songs that are 'call and response' form. One person sings the 'call' and then everyone else 'responds'. One example of this type of song is "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore":
Call Response
Michael, row the boat ashore. Hallelujah! (Repeat)
Sister, help to trim the sail. Hallelujah! (Repeat)
River Jordan’s deep and wide. Hallelujah!
Milk and honey on the other side. Hallelujah!
Trumpet sound the jubilee. Hallelujah!
Cross this river and we’ll be free. Hallelujah!
Aaron Copland was an American composer we discussed. He wrote a few cowboy songs like this one: http://vimeo.com/5020134
We recently talked about STEADY BEAT and RHYTHM and watched the Tap Dogs use both:
We learn about Blues music in 2nd grade.
Tom and Jerry like the blues too!
This song is more jazz style from the 1940s, but not too different from blues.
