United States History I is a survey of American History beginning with the world at the time of Columbus and ending with the fulfillment of America’s Manifest Destiny. During the early portion of the course students will analyze the reasons behind European settlement in North America, the growth of the English colonies, and their ultimate separation from England. After the birth or our nation students will discover the origins of our government and the trials, triumphs, and tribulations during the early years of the Republic. As the Civil War approaches students will examine the growth of the slavery, and the vast cultural and economic differences that separated the north and the south. A study of the civil war will examine the conflict that tore our nation apart and a look a reconstruction will analyze the attempt to repair the damage the country inflicted upon itself. Finally, after reconstruction an examination of the treatment of Native Americans and the prophecy of Manifest Destiny is fulfilled.
