Learning to play.

If you're interested in learning to play pickleball, there are a a number of options in our area.

Several times during the year, Jerry Saner offers courses through extended education at Cal Poly Humboldt. You can find out more at the Leisure Activities on the OLLI site or by clicking this link

Jerry also teaches classes at the McKinleyville Rec Center. See Adult Sports on the McKinleyville Parks and Recreation web site for more information.

Some venues offer specific times for players just starting out. The Adorni Center has done this in the past. McKinleyville Activity center dedicates the first 30 minutes of their morning sessions on Monday and Wednesday to beginners.

Many players are happy to help newbies get started. Several help organize special informal sessions for new players. Click here to submit your interest in learning or teaching on a "training court."

You might also try just showing up for one of the many Open Play sessions and asking for help. (Showing up early may work the best.) The Adorni Center has some spare paddles and many players carry an extra with them.

Most years, out-of-town professionals will offer special clinics in our area. These will be announced on the the Facebook group, the Google group mailing list, or on the Events page. You might also sign up for Play Time Scheduler, since ad hoc teaching sessions are occasionally posted there.
