The internal Assessment (IA) counts for 20% of students' final IB and SPH4UB marks. For this assignment, students must plan, carry out, and write a report about a lab activity of their choosing. The report for this lab will be due near the start of second semester.
Students will complete a mock IA in groups at the start of the course. This will contribute towards students' first semester (SPH3UB) marks. It is also a good chance to get valuable feedback about what is expected for the final IA.
In planning your IA, it is important that you take into account appropriate safety measures. This includes checking the Approved Chemical's List to make sure that it's allowed for use in the school, as well as printing off the appropriate MSDS Sheet and bringing it to class during the experiment. You will not be able to carry out your experiment until both of these are complete.
Sometimes it's difficult to come up with an idea for such an open-ended investigation. Students might find inspiration from the following links:
The documents below will help students with the IA. They are only visible if you are logged into your Halton Cloud account.
