Sight Words

FIRST GRADE SIGHT WORDS

Sight words do not follow the sound/spelling rules. Some words follow the rules but the rules have not yet been taught. These words must be memorized as a whole word by sight.

FIRST GRADE DECODABLE WORDS

Decodable words follow the sound/spelling rules. These words must be sounded out and blended. Repetition leads to increased automaticity. The goal is for the blending process to become smooth.
