Julie Geiger

Julie Geiger teaches Honors American Literature, Freshman Literature and Composition and Senior Literature and Composition. She is also the staff sponsor for Catholeidoscope, a literary and visual arts magazine produced annually at Hayden Catholic High School.

Prior to teaching, Mrs. Geiger worked in broadcasting and public relations. She also wrote an extended series of food and gardening columns. Her work has been broadcast and published in various venues, including Public Radio and The National Catholic Reporter. She is the recipient of multiple awards for writing and commercial production from the Kansas Broadcasting Association and the Kansas Press Association.

In 2003, Mrs. Geiger began her teaching career at Kickapoo Nation School in Powhattan, KS. In addition to teaching English and journalism, she served as interim principal. After nine years there , she joined the staff of Hayden.

Mrs. Geiger graduated from the Academy of Mount St. Scholastica and Benedictine College, both in Atchison, KS. She completed her graduate program in pedagogy through Baker University. As a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, she studied poetry with Helen Vendler at Harvard University.

She is a recipient of the Recognition of Excellence Award from the Educational Testing Service for scoring in the top 15 percent of all teachers who have taken the English Content Praxis Test.

Mrs. Geiger is a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
