Postponed until next week
To start the year first graders will be completing Course A (2020) in Code.org. In this course, student will learn computer science through, a fun and creative platform that teaches computer science and basic coding by creating interactive animations, games, or apps. Your interest in what your child is learning is critical, and Code.org makes it easy to stay involved. See Parent Letter from Code.org.
Our first few weeks' schedule:
9/16 Week 1 Lesson 1: Safety in My Online Neighborhood (unplugged activitiy)
9/23 Week 2 Lesson 3: Happy Maps (unplugged activitiy)
9/30 Week 3 Lesson 4: Sequencing with Scrat
There are 12 lessons in this course 4 are unplugged activities which you may choose to do with your students or not. The eight other lessons are online puzzles that build on coding skills. I'm choosing to start the year with code.org because once student get started it's easy for them and their families to go at their own pace. My intention is for student to complete one online lesson per week. Each online lesson has 8-12 practice games and related video tutorials. The first two lessons I've scheduled are unplugged activities to get students started with online learning. At the start of Lesson 4: Sequencing with Scrat, students will need to use a login to complete the activities. Our class uses picture passwords to sign in and I will explain how to do that with students on week 3 and I will send home the picture passwords.
To have your student sign in to Code.org at home, do the following:
Go to https://studio.code.org/sections/LNFRLY and click on their name
Click on their picture password and then click 'Sign in'
If your student does not remember their picture password, please email me and I will provide it
