Greetings from the end-of-year merry-go-round!

All grades at HES are working on preparation for our Spring Concert on June 12th at 1 pm. Mr. Longstreeth and I have been working together to curate a program of Music of Peace for Band and PK-6 vocal music. Ms. Kerby will also display student artwork at this event.

The Songs of Peace from my classroom cover a variety of times and genres. The audience will hear songs by past and present folk singers including local Sarah Pirtle, pop music, Beethoven's Ode to Joy, American spirituals, and even the Hebrew language and American Sign Language. Within the broad topic of "songs of peace," song subject matter ranges from conflict resolution to diversity appreciation to hope for a better world. We will end with a sing-along of This Little Light of Mine, so bring your own voice!

In addition to concert preparations, most grades have been playing a song game from Afghanistan called Ye Toop Doram. The game involves some steady beat play that reinforces skills from the curriculum, but students are more excited for the the other part of the game, which resembles Dodgeball. Don't worry, we don't get too wild-- one student moves around in the middle of the circle while the class tries to tag his or her feet by rolling a ball. I hear that this song has been making an appearance at Little League and softball games in Hatfield...

Hope to see you at the Spring Concert!

Musically yours,

Jessica Corwin
