AP World History: Modern is an intense, college level (not high school honors level though you do get honors credit), two-semester course that offers an issue-oriented approach in the study of the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the world from c. 1200 CE to 2001 CE.  The course is designed to acquaint students with modern world history and the skills of evaluating primary and secondary sources, analyzing claims, evidence, and reasoning found in sources, putting historical developments in context and making connections between them, and coming up with a claim or thesis and explaining and supporting it in writing. Students will be prepared for a comprehensive national exam based on modern world history and these skills taken in May. Passing exam scores will be given academic credit and/or skip certain courses at most colleges in the United States. Students are responsible for researching and memorizing the facts of history emphasized in the course. An analysis of those facts in their historical context will be conducted on a continual basis.
