6th Grade- All 6th Graders take General PE with a set curriculum. 6th Graders have the opportunity to take additional PE classes on Wednesdays any quarter. 6th Graders may also sign up for an additional 2 day a week PE class 4th quarter.
7th & 8th Grade- All 7th & 8th Graders take General PE Quarters 1-3. 4th Quarter students will sign up for one specific 2 day a week elective PE offering. Wednesday PE electives are open to 7th and 8th Graders every quarter. 4th Quarter is the only quarter that two Wednesday electives counts as your PE credit.
Below we have listed some courses offered as electives. Note not all of the courses are offered every quarter.
Outdoor Games: We will play variety of games typically played as pick-up or neighborhood-style games, possibly including, but not limited to: Capture the Flag, Vampires, Kick the Can etc. Weather and ground conditions allowing, we will spend many class period in the woods, so please be sure you have really good footwear and are not afraid of bugs before signing up for this class.
Words in Movement: Work with Ms. Patch and Ms. Downey improving your concentration and memory while playing physically active games. We will focus on the 7th grade wordly wise vocabulary, which will be a great head start or review for any 6th or 8th grader as well. We will teach games that reinforce vocabulary and show you ways to practice on your own. You will also have opportunities to create games of your own!
Obstacle Course Class Description: Over, Around, Under, Through... This is a fast pace class focused on problem solving, teamwork, agility and skill! In this class students will be in groups of 4 people and work as a team to complete obstacle courses. Top teams from each class will earn spots in the finals!
Tricks: This class will require creativity and an open mind to learn new things. The majority of this class will be self guided where you move at your own pace to learn new skills. iPad projects on skills will be part of the quarter. Units covered include: Hooping, Jump Roping, Flow Wanding, Spinning Plates, Diabolos, Feathers, Juggling, Unicycling & more!
Lifetime Activities: This class will focus on physical activities that can be played throughout the course of a lifetime. They are individual, partner or small group activities. Units covered include: Bocce, Croquet, Table Tennis, Tennis, Kite Flying, Mini Golf & more!
Omnikin: This class focuses on games you can play with a giant 4 foot inflated ball. Including Indiana Jones, Popocorn, Tag, Relays, Volikin and the sport of Omnikin.
Paralympic Sports: This class will explore a variety of sports and how to play them with differing abilities. Each student will be challenged to work outside his/her comfort zone. The following sports will be included goal ball, boccia, volleyball, scooter hockey, wheelchair basketball, soccer and tennis.
In- School Bowling and MR’s Fitness: This class will offer students the opportunity to develop their bowling skills like approaches, spot or pin bowling, releases, scoring, etiquette, safety, vocabulary and lane information. Students will participate in Missie’s fitness stations like yoga, medicine ball, tubing exercises, Pilates, stability ball exercises, dumbbells, and core strengthening.
Sport Stacking with Speed Stacks: This sport is a track meet for your hands at warp speed. It’s an exciting individual and team sport where students stack and unstack 12 specially designed, high – tech cups in predetermined pyramids with amazing dexterity. Stackers race against the clock for individual times and race head to head in team relays.
