Class Dojo

We use the Class Dojo online app for individualized behavior management.  The app will be up on the smart projector screen throughout the day. The students will earn Dojo Points each day based on positive behaviors and cooperation with class rules and procedures.  If a student breaks a rule or commits a “Negative Dojo Act” (poor attitude, negative actions toward other students, etc.), they will first be prompted with a warning and then lose a Dojo Point if the act continues.  At the end of each day their points are tallied on their individualized written chart as well as online and carried over into the next day. Students will earn 10 points per day (if no negative behaviors occur) with occasional extra points for special circumstances. When students earn a total of 50 points, the points are cashed in for a ticket.  These tickets are worth a variety of prizes found on the Dojo Prize Garden chart (see below).  Once the tickets are received the student’s Dojo Points are cleared back to zero to work on his or her next 50 points.  On average, students will receive 50 points per week for excellent behavior, ultimately allowing students to earn a ticket every Friday.  Students will have a chance to earn back lost Dojo Points throughout the day, giving all students a fair chance to earn a ticket each week. The best part about this app is that parents can track their child’s progress each week and can communicate with the teacher.

 Welcome to Class Dojo!

Wildflower Tally Chart

At the front of the classroom there is a bulletin board with a tally chart that acts as a means of team management.  The seating arrangements are grouped into tables that consist of 5 or 6 students. Each group has a designated color: yellow, green, blue, and red. Each of these groups will earn tallies on our tally chart throughout the day for positive group behavior.  Examples of these positive behaviors are being the first group to follow directions during a transition, being the first group to clean up during a transition countdown, being a group who is working quietly and on task, being a group who keeps their area organized and clean, etc.  This is solely based on positive reinforcement; tallies cannot be lost.  At the end of the week the group with the most tally points on our tally chart will earn an extra ticket to use in the dojo prize garden!

Brownie Points

This bulletin board is a positive reinforcement technique used for the class as a whole.  Each time the class does something positive (walks quietly in the hallway, focuses well during a lesson, helps each other, etc.), a "brownie" will be placed on the tray.  When all 3 trays are filled up with brownie cutouts, we vote on a class party! The party can involve snacks, movies, or even extra recess!
