Saratoga Battlefield!

That's right! We will be heading out next Friday to our local historic battlefield!

We are preparing for this trip in several different ways. First, in our classroom, we have reviewed this time period as it relates to the Revolutionary War and our study of historical documents: the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, Constitution and the Bill of Rights. On Wednesday of next week, we will travel to each fifth grade teacher and participate in a twenty minute lesson designed to highlight details surrounding the Battle at Saratoga. On Thursday, we will watch a DVD about the Battle, address questions, and remind students of what will be expected of them while on the trip. We will also make suggestions about the supplies needed. There isn't much; layers of clothing to stay warm and dry, after all, we are outside all day! We will also need a snack and lunch. As with any school day, there is no need for a cell phone.

How fascinating to have our feet on the same ground as Benedict Arnold, General Gates, and General Burgoyne!
