Policies and Procedures
My philosophy is that everyone can learn and succeed when given the opportunity. As your teacher, I will provide you with these opportunities to be successful in your learning. This year you will be learning about cells, genetics, evolution, ecology and conservation.
CLASSROOM RULES
Prepare for class-do assigned work and have all required materials every day. Be in your seat and ready when the bell rings.
Respect others- The teacher has the right to teach, the student has the right to learn, and nobody has the right to interfere with these processes. Turn off cell phones and put away before entering my classroom. Remain silent when someone else is speaking, remain in your seat during instruction, and wait to be recognized before responding to a question.
Interact in positive ways- I expect polite and cordial interactions between classmates. Foul language, physical aggression, name calling, insults, etc. will not be tolerated.
District and Slope policies apply here.-know tardy, dress code, and all other policies, and your job as a student.
Expect to succeed-stay on task, get assignments in on time, and do your best.
Substitute Teacher Behavior
At various times throughout the year, I am required to attend teaching workshops. At those times a substitute teacher will be in my class. I expect all students to demonstrate exceptionally good, self-directed, self-sufficient behavior on these days.
Consequences
All policies outlined in the student handbook will be upheld within my classroom. This includes tardies, cheating, dress code, and make-up work. Consequences for classroom violations will follow school policy:
1st violation: warning, discussion between student/teacher
2nd violation: student teacher conference and a call home to parent
3rd violation: detention and parent notification
4th violation: administrative referral
5th violation: class closure pending parent conference
6th violation: class closure with loss of credit
**Disclaimer: The student reserves the right to act in a way warranting the teacher must skip to a more severe consequence based on the teacher’s discretion.
Citizenship
If you meet the general expectations, you will receive an "S" (Satisfactory) in citizenship. If you do not meet the general expectations, then you may receive a "U" (Unsatisfactory). In order to receive an "A" (Outstanding), you must exhibit helpful, positive behavior above and beyond the general expectations, i.e.: willingness to help other students, etc. The awarding of a "S", "U", or "A" in citizenship will be determined by the teacher.
Passes
Students are required to have a pass from the office to enter the classroom during a class, and must have a pass from the teacher to leave the room during class time.
Late Work Policy
I expect everyone to turn in assignments when they are due. Late assignments will only be awarded partial credit.
Make-up Work Policy
You are responsible for making up all assignments and tests. If you are present when an assignment is given, but are absent on the day it is due, you must turn in that assignment on the day you return to class. If you are absent on the day an assignment is given you will have two (2) days to make up that assignment upon your return to class. If you are absent on the day a test or quiz is given you will be responsible for making up that test or quiz on the day you return to class. This make-up policy follows the policy stated in SHS student handbook.
Test Taking Procedure
Any violations of the following procedure will result in a grade of "0" on the test, a "U" in citizenship, and may result in further disciplinary action.
As soon as the tests are handed out all communication must cease. (This means no talking, laughing, whispering, making hand gestures, etc.)
Eyes must remain on your own test.
Every student must have his/her own calculator, pen, pencil, etc. (You may not share during the test)
All books/materials not given by the teacher as part of the test must be stowed beneath the desk during the entire time the student has the test.
All scratch paper given to the student must be turned in with the test.
Students are expected to do their own work and must never present someone else's work as their own.
