Grading Policy:

(5%) Homework/Housekeeping

(10%) Interpersonal Communication (email responses and conversations)

(10%) Interpretive Communication (reading and listening comprehension)

(10%) Presentational Speaking (speeches and prompts)

(25%) Presentational Writing (essays)

(25%) Language Usage (grammar and vocabulary)

(15%) Semester Exam

Retake/Recovery Point Expectations:

I do not provide many opportunities to retake specific assessments; however, I do provide opportunities to "recover" lost points each semester. Near the end of each semester, students will take "recovery" assessments in most of the grade book categories. For those assessments, I will use their (hopefully) higher assessment score to replace a low score in the same category.

For example, I might offer a grammar quiz over the most recent grammatical concept at the end of November. If a student chooses to submit that assessment for a (hopefully) higher grade, I will use that grade to replace a low grade in the "language usage" category.

Below you will find the retake policy for a few of our typical Spanish 5-6 assessments:

-summer assignment vocabulary test - RETAKE within a week for an average of two scores

-verb conjugation quizzes - usually requires mastery, retake until at least 80% is achieved

-Spanish-Spanish matching vocabulary quizzes - no retakes (later recovery)

-bell slide quizzes - no retakes unless announced (later recovery)

-reading & listening comprehension - no retakes (later recovery)

-simulated conversations - no retakes (later recovery)
