Missing Public Performance Make Up

Missing Performance Make up Assignment

A concert performance represents weeks of work, and your make up assignment should reflect the same effort and attention to detail. The makeup assignment has a written and performance aspect. Choose one of the topics below. You will also have to perform one of the concert songs chosen by the director for the class. This will only make up your performance grade if it is quality work.

Option 1 Concert Report

Attend a musical performance ( local school, local orchestra, Symphony) and answer the prompt. If you choose this option, the paper should be turned in with a copy of the concert program.

Basic Information: Who, What, Where, and When (and Why, if applicable). Who was performing? What was the event, and (especially) what were the performing media? When and where was the event held? Why was the event held (any special reason)?

Critical Narrative: Write about the concert as though you were a critic: that is deal with the aspects of the concert that you consider most important or striking. Be sure-always -to concentrate on musical matters, although brief discussions of other aspects of the concert may be included. In the process, talk about the works performed, how they were presented, how well the performers presented the music, and what made the performances effective or ineffective. Try to employ the concepts and vocabulary you have learned, if it can be done reasonably. The use of first person narrative is fine. When writing about events that occurred at the concert, use the past tense. (Example: “Although the instrumentalist was quite good, her intonation was off.”) But when writing about a particular musical composition or work of art, use the present tense. (Example: “the second movement is slow and lyrical compared movement before and after;”) Finally, I respond best to those reports that are honest and that show that you are seriously engaged in the music and performance.

Paper should be 500+words, double spaced 1 inch borders. Only typed written reports will be accepted.

Option 2 Online Concert Report

Choose a Youtube or other media outlet of a respected guitar ensemble, string Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, or Soloist. Complete the Prompt (from the first option) of the concert and present the video of the most striking event or movement and read your paper to the class.
