Thank you for visiting the APEX website. I oversee this small alternative education program at WHS. I'm certified as a Highly Qualified English teacher in the state of Maine. I've been teaching English for the past 17 years in both Massachusetts and Maine. I've taught grades 9-12 in classes ranging from the standard level to pre-AP courses. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English & Secondary Education from Wheaton College (in MA) and a Master's of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Boston College.
My favorite book when I was young was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I remember connecting with Matilda’s love of reading for the escape and intellectual challenge. I also remember, lovingly, Miss Honey and her role as mentor to Matilda, a young girl who needed a loving, caring adult. It wasn’t until recently that I saw the book cover again after many years and had an epiphany that this book planted the seed about the importance of education, literature, and the important relationship between student and teacher.
