"I have eaten enough calories for the rest of the trip." -Tony after AYCE meal at Ghost Ranch
I guess I don't know how to take a rest day. I took 3 hikes, visited 2 museums, cleaned bikes, washed clothes, went swimming and explored all around Ghost Ranch on my day off. It was a blast.
In the morning, Cassi and I hiked up to Chimney Rock, which gave us great views of Cerro Perdenal and the Jemez mts. The anthropology museum chronicled the 3000 year history of humans at Ghost Ranch while the paleontology museum included dinosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods. Cassi practiced piano a bit. We both walked the labyrinth, patterned after the one at Chartres cathedral.
We skipped lunch (an anomaly on this trip) after a huge breakfast. We hung out and read in the library (hey, that's relaxing). Cassi finished her book on Lance Armstrong and started "A Walk in the Woods"(Bill Bryson's humorous account of walking the Appalachian Trail) that John had brought her. In the evening we treated Ro to dinner. Pasta, my favorite. I ate more in that one meal than I ever have in my entire life. Afterward, Cassi and I hiked Box Canyon, a fantastic trip even though we ended up stumbling back to camp in the dark.
