Hi students and parents! Parents, I hope that the resources on this page will provide some activities that you can easily use to help your child(ren) keep learning. There are many ways to practice and expand your child's language as well. Visit the virtual zoo or aquarium and work on animal vocabulary. Read a story with your child and then ask questions about the events of the story to work on listening comprehension. Complete puzzles to work on problem solving skills. Write a story to work on grammar and using complete sentences. The opportunities are endless!
At Home Speech/Language Activities/Resources
1. This site has free, downloadable word lists with pictures of various speech sounds. If your child is working on a certain sound, head to this website and click "Free Downloads" to find the right sound!
2. This is another site with tons of great activities. There are various language activities (scroll all the way down) and word lists organized by sounds. There are options for word, phrase, or sentence level, depending on what your child is targeting. These lists do not have pictures.
3. Read! Reading is one of the best ways to practice speech and language. Your child can find words with their target sound and practice saying those 5 times each. He/she can label vocabulary in the pictures, answer questions about the story, define words in the story, summarize the story, compare/contrast events or characters in the story, and so much more! If you want to read a book you do not have at home, do a quick YouTube search (always preview the video before showing your child) or search for a read-aloud here.
4. Visit this site to find games/activities specific to your child's goals. You can search by keyword or just browse through the games. If you are unsure of your child's goals, please email me or look for the "goals" section on their IEP.
5. This handout lists strategies to increase your child's language at home. These ideas are great for all students, not just those in speech!
