At Sterling School we take a Multi-System Tiered Support approach to social emotional learning. As far as counseling services go, I provide services that fall into each of these categories (Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3). We are a PBIS school, which falls into the Tier 1 level. PBIS is way for schools to encourage good behavior. With PBIS, we teach our students about behavior just as we teach about other subjects like math and reading. The focus behind this is prevention, not punishment. In counseling, classroom lessons, individual counseling, and small groups fall under the category of Tier 2 interventions. Lastly, the most intense interventions fall under Tier 3. For example, behavior intervention plans and more intense, consistent individual counseling.
