Hello, my name is Renee Fleming, and I am so glad to be your child's third grade math, science, and social studies teacher. I graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and from Walden University in 2011 with a Master's of Science in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. This is my 17th year at Gateway, but my 26th year of teaching. I have taught all elementary grades in some capacity and was also recently a math interventionist at Gateway. I am Nationally Board Certification as a middle childhood generalist. I am excited to be in third grade, teaching the subjects I love!
I love teaching and try to make learning as relevant and as fun as possible. I want my students to understand the material-- not just memorize. I believe that students learn at different rates and different levels, and I try to provide instruction to reach every child and help him/her feel successful.
I live here in Travelers Rest with my husband Mark (who is also a teacher). We have three adult daughters and two dogs. In my free time, I love spending time on the beach, cooking, riding my bike around Travelers Rest, and teaching the kids at my church.
One of the highlights of my teaching career happened a few years when I got to go tour and observe at the Ron Clark Academy. I learned so many inovative teaching strategies that I was able to bring back to Gateway!
A few of my favorite things are: Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Mexican food, Dr. Pepper, 100 Grand candy bars, chocolate covered pretzels, and Clemson football!
