Greetings! My name is Alvin Ellis, and I am from Greer, South Carolina.
Upon graduating from Greer Senior High School, I attended Voorhees University, where I earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I have also pursued graduate studies in educational administration at Cambridge College in Massachusetts.
I currently serve as a fifth-grade teacher at Brook Glenn Elementary and am in my 28th year of teaching. I have taught at Brook Glenn for twenty years and have served on numerous committees here. Prior to joining Brook Glenn, I taught at Denmark-Olar Elementary in Bamberg County for eight years, instructing third, fourth, and fifth grades. Additionally, I taught technology for the J.U.M.P. program, a federally funded after-school initiative. I have presented best teaching practices at professional conferences at the local, state, regional, and national levels. I have also presented nationally for NASA’s Space Station program on science teaching strategies across the curriculum. I have represented my schools as Teacher of the Year and was the 2005–2006 Bamberg County District Teacher of the Year First Runner-Up finalist. I am a past member of the board of directors of the Chapman Foundation. I have written and secured over $22,000 in educational grants for my students. In 2014, I won Ring The Bell for Your Favorite Teacher by 107.3 Jamz. My teaching motto is: "The object of teaching a child is to enable the child to get along without the teacher."
