MS Virtual PE
Physical education provides content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Participating in PE puts children on track to make regular exercise a habit-- one that can combat obesity and reduce the likelihood of developing chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. It also helps to maintain their brain and mental health.
Every student must take at least one semester of PE every school year in Middle School. We understand that there are extenuating circumstances that might cause a scheduling conflict, so we do offer a virtual option through our Greenville County Virtual School Program (GCVSP) that would allow students to take PE virtually outside of the regular school day in addition to their normal class load. Below is the criteria for which a student may be eligible to take PE virtually.
Eligible students:
ONLY students that have a scheduling conflict related to
1) taking a year-long RA course and a high school level foreign language (year-long course)
Parents fully understand that they will be adding an additional class to their child’s schedule that will increase their overall workload.
Students and parents agree to the requirements listed below under “General Information.”
Eligibility will be confirmed by the school counselor and will include whether a virtual course is appropriate in terms of the student’s academic background, organizational skills and self-sufficiency. (all designated as important for success by our program)
2) taking an academic support class and a year-long related arts (RA) elective course

School counselors must complete a form and receive an approval.

General Info for Greenville County Virtual PE (GCVSP):
SC PE standards require students to demonstrate competence in a variety of movement forms and complete the required Fitnessgram test. Students will be required to submit short 30-60 second videos in order to provide evidence that standards are being met.
The student is responsible for having a fitness sponsor administering the fitnessgram test and overseeing/validating the movement form activity. The fitness sponsor must be a teacher, coach, or a parent or guardian. Weekly fitness/activity logs will also be used as validation.
For a class to make, at least 5 students must be registered district-wide.
Course registration is done through the GCVSP (not through the K-12 VP).
