Physical Education
The mission of Greenville County Schools physical education program is to provide positive experiences in physical activity for all students in order for lifelong physical activity to be established as a foundation for a healthy, productive, fulfilling life. Physical educators strive to follow “best practices” that provide students with developmentally appropriate, fun experiences in physical activity. All curriculum units are developed using the South Carolina State Academic Standards for physical education.
Comprehensive Health Education
Greenville County School District Health Education Department is responsible for developing, supporting, and teaching the Erin’s Law lessons and the Sexual Health and Responsibility curriculum in Greenville County Schools. This department consists of six health educators that teach, assist in instructional planning with school staff, and develop support materials for planning and implementation of the district’s sexual health and responsibility programs.
Elementary Erin’s Law Lesson - One lesson taught each year through the school’s counselors
5th Grade Human Growth & Development Lesson - Two district health educators travel to each elementary school to teach this lesson
Middle School Sexual Health & Responsibility Unit - is developed and maintained by the district health education department and taught each year through the physical education class by the school’s PE teachers
6th & 8th Grade Erin's Law - lessons taught each year through the school’s counselors
7th Grade Erin's Law - Two district health educators travel to each middle school to teach this lesson
High School Sexual Health & Responsibility Unit and Erin’s Law Lesson - is developed, maintained, and taught by the district health education department through the PE I course
10th -12th Grade Erin's Law - lessons taught each year through the school’s counselors
