Welcome to 6th grade science... A year of new discoveries!!!!

Six grade Science begins with inquiry ...knowledge of the use of tools, the scientific method, technological design, using a dichotomous key, and knowing appropriate safety procedures when conducting investigations and then it will continuely be embedded throughout the year. Unit topics will consist of Atmosphere and Weather, Energy Types and Conservation, Processes and Structures of Plants and Animals.

How to be successful in 6th grade Science:

  • We cover a LOT of new vocabulary and spend several class periods over the course of the year copying our vocabulary words and definitions. Please review vocabulary with your student consistently! You will find the vocabulary here on my website so your student doesn't have to bring home their TIGERbook each night.

  • Study routinely. Do not wait until the night before (or even two nights before) a test to review. Cramming information so close to the test date may result in a higher grade momentarily, but retrieving that information weeks and months down the road will be nearly impossible. Learning takes time...allow yourself TIME to learn these new topics!

  • Make sure your student is keeping up with their TIGERbook. We do not use a textbook in Science and essentially build our own with our TIGERbook. Everything we do in class is bound in a single composition notebook. We go over the (very) specific ways of setting up our notebook at the beginning of each semester.

  • Be prepared & be on time. Come to class each day, on time, with all your necessary materials. We can't learn if we aren't prepared. If you are absent, be sure to catch up as soon as possible so you don't fall too far behind.

  • Ask questions. If you don't understand, please ask questions. Chances are there are other students who have the exact same question.
