SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.

At GSCC, we hold school-wide meetings, attend the state-run Fall Leadership Conference in Myrtle Beach, and the State Leadership and Skills Conference in the spring. We have local chapter officers and some have even served as state officers! Those who earn Gold Medals at SLSC have the opportunity to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA in June.

Each year, students in Digital Art and Design enter technical skill based competitions for Pin and T-shirt Design. Students may also participate in Screen Printing, Advertising Design, Photography, and additional leadership contests! The state level contest occurs in March.

Students submit contest entries at the state level and the South Carolina gold medalists from each competition will have the opportunity to compete at Nationals in Atlanta! There are many additional competitions available for students to enter into, and students may even team up with peers from other classes.

This year, we also have a student member serving as a State Officer who will travel to Washington D.C. in September to attend the Washington Leadership Training Institute.
