This program prepares students for a multitude of careers in the graphic design field. Students will receive instruction in layout, graphic design, electronic art, color enhancement, and digital photography. Students will use design concepts, principles, and processes that meet client expectations using Adobe Creative Suite Software. Students will have the opportunity to earn certifications in each Adobe program learned.
First-year students will spend fall semester mastering vector art using Adobe Illustrator. Students will also use vector creations to create 3D prints, laser engravings, and convert to .DST embroidery files. Second semester will focus on raster images in Adobe Photoshop. Photography will be incorporated into this unit.
Second-year students will enter the screen printing lab to take original digital designs from the computer screen to the press. These students design and print shirts for GSCC classes as well as outside clients. Additionally, these students will learn about spreads and layout using Adobe InDesign to create multi-page documents including a custom calendar and school-wide magazine. Students may also use Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing and Adobe Animate for 2D animation.
Students are encouraged to apply for co-ops and internships available through LaunchGVL and our Work Based Learning program. These are often paid jobs that take place during the class meeting time. Students need to have transportation to/from these off-campus jobs. This is a primary focus of levels two and a requirement of level three.
