Biography
A graduate of San Dieguito High School, locally raised Clayton Payne worked as a web designer, internet project manager, independent contractor for an environmental science research company, professional musician and recording artist before coming back to Encinitas to teach at The Grauer School. In addition to teaching and leadership roles, Clayton has led numerous Expeditions at The Grauer School. He states that he is at The Grauer School because he “enjoys the opportunity to not only provide dynamic education to students, but to treat young people as in a respectful, personal matter. To teach each student as an individual rather than as a name on a seating chart—within the class and on our expeditionary learning adventures—is truly remarkable.” Clayton is still an active musician in San Diego and resides in Oceanside with his wife Becky and sons Thatcher and Luke.
