How To - Prioritizing Standards and Rationale
We are working on creating a shared document of core standards for 3rd and 4th quarter by prioritizing each standard into one of three groups.
Level 1 - Teach, Assess, Ensure
The most important concepts. Those that you will spend significant time to teach and assess the standard, and to give time for remediation to ensure that all students are proficient. Theses are standards for which we believe and are committed that 100% of our students need to and will show proficiency.
Level 2 - Teach, Assess
These are standards that have significant importance and as such we include them in assessment so that students are accountable for learning them. With the assessment data we also know how well the concepts were learned and if we need to make adjustments next time it’s taught. However, time is not given for remediation after the assessment.
Level 3 - Teach
These concepts are important enough to be considered as part of the core, but they are less important than the rest. Time may or may not be given to teach these concepts, depending on available time and student progress with the other more important standards.
