Spelling Skills for each week will be listed below.  

Skill for the week of Aug. 21-25, 2023:  Short and Long e: Patterns for Long E include ee (keep), ie (believe), ea (beast), and e Consonant e (complete)

Skill for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 1, 2023:  Short i and Long i: Patterns for Long I include: i Consonant e (surprise), igh (fright), i (grind),  and short i (skill)

NO TEST THE WEEK OF SEPT. 4TH  DUE TO THE SHORT WEEK!

Skill for the week of Sept. 11-15, 2023: Short o and Long o words include o Consonant e (remote, globe), oa (oatmeal, boast) -ow (fellow, known)

Skill for the week of Sept. 18-22, 2023: Homophones (minor/miner, herd/heard, heel/heal, weight/wait)

Skill for the week of Sept. 25-Sept. 29, 2023: Vowel Sounds (u) bunch, trunk (yoo) argue, refuse (oo) tune, stew

Skill for the week of Oct. 2-6, 2023: oo and oo (two different sounds and spellings-- tricky!) Examples: bloom, put

Skill for the week of Oct. 9-13, 2023: (TEST ON OCT. 12-No school on 13th): -ou, -al, -aw (spelled as "ou" in proud) or -au  (such as pause)

Skill for the week of Oct. 16-20, 2023:  Vowel +r sounds (-ar (pronounced air or ear) -ar, -are, -eer, -ear

Skill for the week of Nov. 6-10, 2023: More vowel + /r/ sounds: spelled (ur, or, ir, ear, our) learn, return, board, sport

Skill for the week of Nov. 13-17, 2023: Homophones (Examples: berry, bury, steal, steel) *This spelling list was sent home on Friday so students can study the meanings of the homophones to understand the difference between each.

NO SPELLING TEST THE WEEK OF NOV. 20-24, 2023

Skill for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 1, 2023: Words with -ed and -ing endings

Skill for the week of Dec. 4-8, 2023: Final long e (-ey, -y, ie) Examples: turkey, injury, movie

Skill for the week of Dec. 11-15, 2023: Changing final "y" to "i" Examples: tiniest, countries, busier

Skill for the week of Jan. 8-12, 2024: Words with/k/, /ng/, and /kw/ Examples: risky, ache, slingshot, and question

Skill for the week of Feb. 5-9, 2024: Suffixes: -ful, -less, -ness, -ment (graceful, endless, eagerness, appointment)

Skill for the week of Feb. 12-16, 2024:  Words with VCCV (vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel) Pattern (Example: pepper, million)

Skill for the week of Feb. 19-23, 2024: VCV (vowel, consonant, vowel)
