"Be Kind, Be Positive, Be Here!"

Hello Parents,

Wow! Students were really creative with their Nebraska Projects they shared this week. Thank you to all of you in helping your child with brainstorming ideas, helping your child create them, as well as making special arrangements in delivering the projects.  Students were proud as they shared them this week with their classmates.  Students will be bringing those home today.

Information for Field Day on May 17th is coming home today. Please read through the details. The Talent Show  is also coming up on May 21st. School dismissal for the last day of school on May 22nd will be at 11:30.

If your child has a summer birthday, they will be celebrating it in school this month.  Please check with your child when their scheduled day is to celebrate. It is written in their daily planners.

Students have voted on some upcoming fun days.  They are as follows:

May 15-Picture of your Pet Day

May 17-Movie Day

May 21-Board Game Day

Please continue to read on for activities from the week!

Students were given their Daily Planners.  Each day (Monday through Friday), students are expected to complete 20 minutes of Math or Reading.  After your child completes his/her homework, please initial that your child completed the 20 minutes of Math or Reading. At the end of the week, students will be given 10 "Caught Being Good" tickets for getting their planner signed as well as completing homework assignments.  These "Caught Being Good" tickets can be used at our School Store.

Parents, please also sign your child's planner daily at the bottom. Your child should be able to explain at least one activity from the day to let you know how their day went and what they did.  Hopefully when you ask them what they did that day, they don't reply "nothing."

Your child has a yellow Friday folder that will come home on Fridays.  In this folder, you will find our class schedule.  If there is any information from the PTO or upcoming events, that will also go home on Fridays.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Nixon

Students are more than welcome to bring a healthy snack to school.  We have a long afternoon, so a snack is a great way to energize our bodies. Some snacks may include granola bars, cheese and crackers, fruit, apple sauce, yogurt, etc.

Scroll down to find out about upcoming events, tests, birthdays etc.  Have a great week!

Check out our events and activities throughout the week:

Reading- Spelling tests will be given on Fridays, unless noted otherwise.  We will be focusing on the skills here at school and the skill for the week is in my newsletter under the "Spelling Skills" tab. There are NO more spelling tests this year.

We are working on reading more fluently as we read, to improve our comprehension skills.  Please continue to read with your child at home.  Reading out loud is more beneficial as they can hear themselves, which allows them to hear if their reading is fluent or choppy, or if a word is mispronounced.

Remember, 15-20 minutes of reading a night help your child to be better readers, writers, spellers, and  to have a richer, fuller vocabulary. When students read, encourage them to read for enjoyment, read for information, and to read to understand (comprehend).  Painting a picture in his/her head of the events and characters help the child remember events more clearly.  If a child can find personal connections with characters, they are also more likely to remember details in the story as well.  Also, students who read aloud will be more fluent readers.

Social Studies- This week many landmarks and people/places in history were brought to life with the students' Nebraska Projects.  They were really fun to see and learn about.  Thank you for taking the time to be a part of your child's learning.

Science-We have begun researching the 6 Biomes and comparing/contrasting each of those areas.  We will continue next week with our research.

Math- Students tested over Topic 12 (decimals) today.  We will be working on Topic 13 over Measurement. Please continue to help your child review their multiplication and division facts at home to make the more challenging problems easier.  Students in 4th grade need to know multiplication and division facts from 1-12.

*Math journals will be used for class notes, vocabulary, examples, and student work.  Students are more than welcome to take these home for help on homework.  Students need to return their journals each day as we will use these on a daily basis.

Thank you for signing your child's planner daily in two spots.  The first signature lets me know you saw your child's activities and homework assignments from the day and the second signature (initials) lets me know if your child completed the 20 minutes of Reading or Math for the night.
