Dear Kindergartener,
Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Rolfes and I am so excited to be your teacher this year. I am really looking forward to having you in class. We are going to have lots of fun learning and meeting new friends. You will have a lot to tell mom and dad.
I hope you are excited to come to school. On the first day of school, please bring your favorite stuffed toy to spend the day with you!
I hope to meet you on Tuesday at Open House. If you have
your school supplies; you can bring them with you. Our classroom is the last room on the left down the Kindergarten/1st grade hallway. Come see all the fun things we have in our classroom.
I hope you had a great summer and I’m looking forward to hearing all about it. I cannot wait to meet you.
Love, Mrs. Rolfes

Dear Parents;
Welcome to the wonderful world of Kindergarten! My name is Sammie Rolfes and I am so excited to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher. This will be my 15th year with Gretna Public Schools and 14th year in Kindergarten. My husband and I live in the Gretna area and both my kiddos attend Palisades. Kinsley will be in fifth grade and my youngest, Grayson will be a second grader. I graduated with an elementary education and mild/moderate disability degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I have also completed my masters in early childhood education from Concordia University. I am excited to continue my career in Kindergarten and at Palisades.
It is a very exciting time for you and your child. I am looking forward to a new year and the opportunity to meet you and your child. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the coming weeks and months. I know you may have mixed emotions about sending your little one to Kindergarten and I can completely relate J. Please know that I will do all I can to help your child feel safe and happy at school. The first day of school will be hard for some kiddos and maybe not for others. Be sure to remind your child of who is picking them and that I will be there to help them all day and every day!
Please feel free to call, email, or send a note with your child if you have any questions or concerns.
Open House:
Back to School Open House Night is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8 from 5:00-7:00. This is a great opportunity for your child to familiarize themselves with our classroom. Please bring any school supplies you may have on this night.
Other Information:
Your child will have the choice to eat a school lunch or a lunch from home each day of school. If your child will be eating school lunches, please be sure to add funds to their school lunch account before the first day of school.
Snack Information - At the beginning of each month, each child will be asked to bring one snack to share with classmates throughout the month. You only need to send snacks once a month, but please send enough for the entire class - 23 kids. Please make sure the snack is pre-packaged :-). It is always nice to have a variety of snacks. Some suggestions include: goldfish, popcorn, fruit snacks, yogurt, pudding, granola bars, etc. Thank you in advance for your donations. You are welcome to bring any snack donations to Open House. If your child has any allergies, please be sure to talk to me at Open House and I can explain snack J.
School Supplies – You can find a link to the current supply list on the Palisades Elementary website.
Attached to this letter is a Transportation Form. If possible, please print and bring to Open House. I will have extras also. This form tells me how your child will be getting home the first two days of school and the remainder of the year. Please be sure to fill this form out before leaving Open House.
That was a lot of information! If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me! The months ahead will bring much growth for your child and I look forward to guiding you and your child through Kindergarten. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and hope to see you at Open House.
Sincerely,
Sammie Rolfes
