Questions you might have about Mrs. Keller’s Math Class
1. What materials do I need for math class?
· Each day of math class: pencil, iPad, and a 1½ inch 3-ring binder. This binder will hold the notes and homework assignments from the entire year and will serve as an additional resource.
· Occasionally: calculator
2. I am struggling to understand the notes/homework: what can I do?
· Using your notes: investigate and try to find a similar problem with comparable methods to solve, rework problems we did together and try to continue to match answers
· Using your binder: rework the examples solved for you in each lesson, rework odd numbered problems and look up answers in the back of the book, use the study guide/reviews provided at the end of each chapter
· Using the internet: view videos I posted on my website, partake in the interactive websites I posted on my website, perform your own search for helpful tutorial videos on YouTube
· Using the classroom: ask a classmate to explain the steps they chose to solve a problem, ask questions during work time, ask ME questions during team study/before school/after school
I am available every day during team study, before school starting at 7:35, and every day after school until 4:00. Stop in anytime and share with me your ideas on how to solve a problem or questions on how to get started.
3. Is there extra credit?
· No; however, at GMS all math students have the opportunity to earn points back on homework assignments.
o Do not erase anything from the original assignment.
o Student reworks all problems that were incorrect on a separate sheet of paper
o Justify new answers with work and a written explanation.
o Staple the original and the corrections – hand into the correction tray within two days
o More work + more explanation + more proof of understanding = more points back J

Course Expectations/Procedures
Behavior
By the time students get to middle school, they have had half of their public education experience, and they know how to behave in a classroom situation. They should have developed the ability to self-monitor and control their actions, and they will be expected to do so in my class. Mrs. Keller’s “Top Ten” expectations will be implemented every day of class.
1) Start each class working the warm up in silence.
2) Bring your materials to class every day
3) Talking is permitted when given permission
4) Stay in your assigned seat unless otherwise stated
5) Treat others with respect
6) Use class time wisely
7) Follow directions the first time they are given.
8) Only original work will be accepted.
9) Do your work well
10) Follow school rules
Daily Routine
1. Enter classroom, sharpen pencil, and copy down needed agenda information from the board
2. Have all materials needed for class (pencil, correcting pen, binder, textbook, assignment)

Grading Policy
70% Quizzes/Tests
30% Homework
Redo Rule: Part of the school’s grading policy states that all quizzes or tests below a 70% must be retaken. Homework grades may be corrected once for a higher grade. Also in the school’s grading policy, any grades remaining under a 70% will receive a ZAP form. The electronic form will be emailed to parents and needs to be taken care of within 2 days of being given the ZAP.
Corrections Rule: The student reworks problems that were incorrect, making sure to show all work. Corrections are to be done on a NEW piece of paper. Points will be earned back for correct answers that that have been justified (WORK OR WORDS). Showing proof of understanding can be in the form of showing work or a written explanation. More work + more explanation + more proof of understanding = more points back J Do not erase anything from the original assignment. Staple corrections page to the back of original and turn in to the tray within the timeframe of that current chapter.
Late Work Rule: Late work is not acceptable to me; however, I do understand there are certain circumstances. Therefore, I will have a late work basket in my room that students will put late assignments in. Work that is considered late is handed in after I pick it up at the beginning of class and will receive an automatic penalty of 20% off each day late. Students are to complete the assignment before/after school or during team study.
Absent Policy
When a student is absent, he or she is responsible to find out what assignments were missed and the due dates. Mrs. Keller keeps an “Absent Binder” that has previous classwork and homework. Upon a return, the student must look in the teacher agenda and binder to copy down missed assignments and retrieve any missed work. Notes will need to be borrowed and copied from a reliable student.
You will have two days for each day you were absent to turn in your work. Please speak with me ahead of time for known absences (school event, vacation, an appointment, etc.) for assignments and instructions.
The student should be prepared to arrive early to school or stay after school if he or she has been absent for a quiz or test. Arrangements will need to be made with me for a prompt make up of the test.
Tardy Policy
Students are expected to be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings. We start working on copying down assignments and opening sponge activities right away so when students are late they are missing out on warm-up grades and possible future assignments.
