Writing Philosophy

My beliefs about teaching writing…

• Writing is an academic subject that needs a set period of time to be taught everyday
• Writing takes time
• Every child is a writer who grows and learns at their own pace
• Writers need direct and explicit instruction of skills and strategies to support and develop writing growth
• Writers need specific feedback from the teacher, parents, and peers to cultivate the craft of writing
• Teacher and students are composing by putting illustrations and words together
• Writers go through a process to get writing done
• Writers talk about what they write.
• Read-Alouds support writers
• Reading facilities writing
• Writers need readers to read what they write
• Writers support each other with feedback from other writers
