Mission
The Mission of the Beck School of Practical Nursing is to offer quality allied health and nursing programs that integrate professional skills, career focused education and hands on practical experience, empowering students to develop and achieve their personal and career potentials.
The Center provides a sophisticated level of training to individuals who desire a professional career in the medical field. This is accomplished through educational programs utilizing up to date training equipment, didactic lectures and hands-on experience provided by highly trained instructors, and faculty.

PN Program Description:
The course consists of eleven months of classroom theory and clinical experience. As of January 2021, the curriculum is divided into four 10–12 week blocks for a total of approximately 1440 clock hrs. Excluding holidays.
The course is full time, Monday through Friday, for an average of 35–40 hours per week. Campus classes are generally from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., and clinical days are generally from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Starting in January 2021, after the first 4 weeks of classroom, two days per week are scheduled as clinical assignments at selected health care institutions.
Students may have to attend meetings, seminars, classes, clinical practicum, etc. during the evening and/or weekends. The student will be given prior notice should this occur.
A diploma and a recommendation to write the National Council of State Boards Exam for Practical Nursing are granted upon successful completion of the program. Students are responsible for securing their own employment after graduation.

Once you complete the application below, fill out your 2022-2023 FAFSA application. Be sure to link your 2020 tax returns to the FAFSA to save documentation requests!
2. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
send us your Official High School and all Official College transcripts
Transcripts must be official, (in the original sealed envelope from the school). Please provide official transcripts from every school/college you have attended since high school as well.
3. TWO LETTERS OF PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE
- These must be written by someone who is not related to you.
4. ENTRANCE TESTING - ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
A. Official College Transcripts with at least a minimum of grade C in:
- Algebra or College Math level 94 or higher, Chemistry, or Physics
- English or Language Arts 100 level or higher and
- Composition I or comparative

B. SAT score of 860+, ACT score of 18+
OR
C. The WorkKeys Tests*
*WORK KEYS is only needed if the criteria listed above are not met. You will take Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and WorkPlace Documents tests. If you are not sure whether you need to take the WorkKeys exam, please call Student Services first. Once you schedule your exam there ARE NO REFUNDS!!

Once submitted, application documents become the property of BSPN and will not be returned.
All admissions are conditional, pending satisfactory physical and dental exams, drug screen, background check and successful completion of a healthcare provider CPR training class provided by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
The PN program is an integrated curriculum; therefore, we do not accept credits from other institutions.
However, if you are listed in good standing on the Illinois Department of Public Health Healthcare Worker Registry, credit will be given for the basic skills portion of the curriculum. Information for that will be given when the student is enrolled in the program.

TIME COMMITMENT:
Clinical Information - Clinical experiences are completed at hospitals/clinical facilities throughout Randolph/Monroe/St. Clair Counties. Students begin clinical experience in the first Term of instruction and every Term throughout the remainder of the program. Background checks and drug testing are required prior to clinical experience. Specific Clinical placement cannot be guaranteed.
Students within the same course may have different schedules due to clinical placement. To complete the program, students must be willing to adapt their schedules as needed.
Transportation & Attendance - Students are responsible for their own transportation and attendance to all classes and clinicals assigned by the program. Specific clinical placement cannot be guaranteed, although the program attempts to take into consideration students' residency to reduce excessive travel.
This is a program that will require a lot of after class study time, as there will be multiple tests each day. Homework/study time could be several hours or more each night, to keep up with the pace of the program. Students should be prepared for the intensity of this course.

ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM:
Record Review: All application materials, upon receipt, will be reviewed by the Department of Nursing.
NOTE: Not all candidates receive interviews with the Admissions Committee or the Director of Nursing. Some files may receive record review only. Phone interviews may be substituted when necessary.
Interview: A personal interview will be scheduled after all entrance criteria have been met.
Upon completion of record review and/or interview, the applicant will receive written notification as to whether or not he/she has been accepted for admission.

TUITION:
Current tuition for the 2020 - 2021 school year is $14,900. Tuition is determined semi-annually and subject to change. After acceptance into the program, an administrative fee is due to reserve your place in the class.
If the administrative fee is not paid, the applicant’s place in the class may be forfeited. The administrative fee is deducted from the total tuition, and arrangements for the remainder must be made by THE START OF THE PROGRAM. It is suggested that financial arrangements are made well in advance.

Licensure Requirements:
NCLEX-PN Exam
After successful completion of the Nursing program, students are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-PN examination, graduates apply for licensure as a licensed practical nurse.
Licensure
After written documentation confirming successful completion of NCLEX-PN has been received by the graduate, the graduate may be employed in a licensure-pending category and work under the supervision of an RN, until the Illinois license has been received. Graduates seeking licensure in a state other than Illinois are required to follow the regulations of that state.
