Open Water Information

PADI Open water diver course

The PADI Open Water Diver Course is your gateway to the exciting and fulfilling world of scuba diving. Our course fee is just $475, which includes lifetime certification, college credit, training materials, classroom instruction, confined water (pool) dives, open water dives, and rental gear for your confined water dives. You only need to purchase basic gear, for which we offer a discount upon signing up. Be sure to get your gear before class starts!

For the open water dives, you can either purchase your gear or rent ours at a discounted rate of only $45 for both days. Additionally, please note that there is a park entry fee of $20 per day in Rolla.

Class Schedule:

Classes usually begin on Saturday at Scuba Adventure. We start promptly at 11:00 a.m. and continue until around 5:30 p.m., so make sure to have an early lunch. You're welcome to bring snacks and drinks for the session. Please bring your course book, a notepad, and a pen or pencil. After the classroom session, we'll take a break for dinner before heading to the YMCA for the pool session, where locker rooms and showers are available.   A brief swim test will kick off the pool session, but don’t worry—it’s not timed and you don’t need to be a strong swimmer. We’ll cover how to use your mask, fins, and snorkel properly, followed by the scuba portion of the class. We’ll take our time to ensure you’re comfortable with all the skills you're learning. You’re going to have a fantastic time!

Open Water Dives:

After completing the classroom and pool sessions, you’ll need to complete two days of open-water diving to earn your certification. These dives typically take place in a quarry in Rolla, but can also be done at Mermet Springs, Pennyroyal, or during one of Scuba Adventure’s dive trips. I’m happy to accommodate your schedule for these dives at a private lesson rate of $135 per student (minimum of 2 students).

Remember, you’ll need a mask, fins, snorkel, and dive boots for the course. Scuba Adventure offers discounts on these items, and we can usually match or beat online prices. The rental for your BCD, regulator, gauges, tank, weights, and wetsuit is included for the confined water dives, while open water dives have a reduced rental fee of $40 for two days for the wetsuit, tank, regulator, weights, and BCD. Please support your local dive shop! Full payment is due before the first day of class, but you can secure your spot with a non-refundable deposit of $100.

Please read your course book before class and complete the quizzes and knowledge reviews. Additional study outside of class is expected. Remember, you can earn college credit for this course; just remind me to provide the paperwork if you need it. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at the shop at (573) 634-3483 or on my cell at (314) 540-4162. I look forward to seeing you in class soon—this is an experience you won’t regret, and the memories will be unforgettable!
