GMS Jazz is open to any 7th and 8th-grade student participating in the GMS Band program. Select sixth graders will be allowed to participate in the ensemble based on readiness and instrumentation needs. At this time, there are no auditions for GMS Jazz. Students participating in jazz must be confident on their instrument and prepared for more challenging music and independent parts.

Students who play rhythm section instruments (piano, bass, guitar, drumset) do not need to be in the concert band as long as they are currently enrolled in private lessons outside of school.
Jazz ensemble meets Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7 AM in the GMS Band Room. Students should arrive at least 5 minutes early so they can set up their instruments.
In addition to the concerts below, the jazz band will participate in the Gorham Jazz Tour (TBD) and various daytime school events such as pep rallies and special events.
Jazz band will begin on September 16th, 2025.
