Co-op 11-12

Non O2 - Cooperative Education 11 & 12 Course Outline

Cooperative Education through Options and Opportunities allows students to explore a broad range of opportunities in the working world. Through Co-op, students will demonstrate a variety of life work skills by being matched with an employer or community host. Co-op requires students to be flexible in completion of placement hours during and outside of the regular school hours. Students are responsible for maintaining contact with teachers and completing all requirements of courses in which they are registered outside of the Co-op course.

OUTCOMES

Students will demonstrate personal growth in employability skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to participate and progress in today’s workforce through the development of a portfolio.

Students will demonstrate understanding of the three key skills areas (Personal Management, Teamwork and Fundamental) as outlined in the Conference Board of Canada Employability Skills 2000 through self assessment, reflection and completion of a variety of learning activities.

Students will be expected to have an educational, training and evaluation plan for the experiential learning experience.

Throughout this course students will be required to maintain and complete the following:

-A log of hours worked—brief descriptions of what you did must be included.

-A reflective journal throughout each 80 hour placement.

-Updated portfolio components—resume, goals, skills and experience need to be edited.

Each of the above components will form part of the assessment for this course in addition to an evaluation by the company in which they have been placed.
