Pesticide Program

Glastonbury Schools Pest Control/Turf Maintenance

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is utilized at all schools. The Turf and Ornamental part of the plan incorporates all facets of pest management including cultural practices, exclusion, scouting, monitoring, mechanical and physical controls, and the use of organic and synthetic pesticides when required.

At the K-8 schools, pesticides are only allowed if they have been given an EPA 25b exemption, or if they are determined to be needed for control of stinging insects, mosquitoes or ticks, or if an emergency treatment is deemed necessary in a human health emergency as determined by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

Parent Notification of Pesticide Applications on School Grounds

Parents can register to be notified by email of pesticide applications on school grounds as outlined in the Turf Maintenance and Pest Control Program for Glastonbury Public Schools. Registration is included as part of the online Student Information Update system. For additional information or questions, contact Dr. Ken Roy Director of Environmental Health & Chemical Safety at 860-652-7200 ext 2002 or email at royk@glastonburyus.org.

In the case of emergency applications, those on the registry will receive notice as soon as possible after the application is made. This will generally be done within 24 hours of such treatment.
